Trip Summary | Victoria Falls Hotel | Makalolo Plains | Camp Amalinda | Pamushana | Locations

The Victoria Falls Hotel

Established in 1904, The Victoria Falls Hotel is located a short walk from the Victoria Falls along a private path. The views from here of the gorge and the span bridge are the best on the Zimbabwe side. The elegant lounges offer serenity and seclusion. Corridors reflect a bygone era of the British Empire and suites and rooms are superbly furnished in Edwardian-style. The courtyard entrance overlooks lily ponds, lush flowering shrubs and palm trees.

The 180 rooms are decorated in a manner that recaptures the comfortable charm of a bygone age, with colonial prints, four-poster and canopied beds, antique furniture and well-chosen artefacts. Modern facilities and amenities mingle well with the old-fashioned ambience, including such 21st century travellers' necessities as personal safes, minibars, bathrobes, digital satellite television and even umbrellas for the convenience of guests visiting the rainforest around the Falls. Deluxe rooms and suites in the original section of the hotel offer breathtaking views across the Batoka Gorge to the Victoria Falls bridge and the spray of the Falls.

In the Livingstone Room, guests can enjoy elegant dinner and dancing with a classic á la carte menu. Stanley’s Terrace serves light lunches and dinner, afternoon tea and sundowners, whilst providing spectacular views. The Jungle Junction serves breakfast and dinner buffets with Makishi dancers and an indigenous choir entertaining every night.

An Edwardian swimming pool is set among beautiful landscaped gardens, overlooking the famous Victoria Falls bridge with panoramic views. There are also two all-weather, floodlit tennis courts on site. A full range of other sports are available nearby, including an 18-hole championship golf course only five minutes drive from the hotel.

Enthusiasts can experience a selection of the area's wildlife on foot, horseback or elephant-back, by vehicle, and in boats along the Zambezi River. A vintage train excursion, canoe safari, “Flight of the Angels” helicopter ride or a visit to a traditional African Village all provide memorable experiences. For the more adventurous there is white water rafting, bungee jumping and the Gorges Swing on offer. The Victoria Falls rainforest is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Remember that buffalo and elephants have the right of way during the whole time you spend in Victoria Falls!
